          Description
From a limited edition of only 200 pieces, this beautiful one kilogram silver proof coin was produced by The Royal Mint to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. On the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Charles III acceded to the British throne. Approximately three generations have passed since the last time a coronation was held in the UK, and on the 6th May 2023 Charles III will be crowned King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. Sculptor Martin Jennings has designed an obverse engraving unique to the Charles Coronation coin range, showing the monarch wearing the Tudor Crown and facing to the left. The new King personally approved the design, which sees a male King wearing a crown on UK coinage for the first time since the 17th century. On the reverse, experienced Royal Mint engraver John Bergdahl draws inspiration from the era of Charles II for his design. He places the crowned shield of the Royal Arms surrounded by laurel branches containing the floral emblems of the four constituent nations of the United Kingdom. The legend reads ‘THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III 6 MAY 2023’, and you can see His Majesty’s Royal Cypher to the left and three intertwined letter ‘C’s to the right. This edition contains exactly 32.1507 troy ounces of fine silver, struck to proof standard in 999 fineness. Its 100.00 millimetre diameter allows the owner to appreciate both royal portraits in all their glory. The coin comes in its original presentation packing from The Royal Mint with a certificate of authenticity enclosed.
